The highest quality and most valued Turquoise on the planet comes from a mine in Globe, Arizona. This mine permanently closed a few years ago, so there is no more material left to make this quality. I have searched for many years to acquire untreated Turquoise from this mine, and I am proud to offer this material.
Most Turquoise you see on the market is not Turquoise at all, but rather plastic or dyed Howlite and Magnesite. Gem manufacturers also use a ceramic process to make synthetic Turquoise. This is done with ground-up powder, combined with heat and pressure, resulting in a beautiful solid Turquoise stone that looks attractive, but is entirely fake.
However, due to the nature of how it was made, synthetic Turquoise looks “too unnaturally perfect,” as natural Turquoise is less smooth on the surface. Synthetic Turquoise can even be created with fake Matrix’s. The best way to tell if a Turquoise is natural with a Matrix present is to look at how flush it is with the rest of the stone. Synthetic Turquoise will have a matrix completely even and flush with the rest of the mineral, while natural Turquoise has a matrix that is often softer and more recessed.
Turquoise is sometimes stabilized with a coating of liquid plastic, which hardens and holds the color of the gemstone. Most Turquoise that comes out of the ground is too soft and will break during the cutting processes, so treatments are a common method to harden the rock before cutting. The finest rough from the ground that is hard enough not to be treated with plastic or dyes is usually immediately cut and sold to the highest bidder, as the natural occurrence of this is extraordinarily rare.
Some Turquoise can contain minor coating, which still renders the stone as therapeutic, but this depends on the level of coating. Any Turquoise, however, that is dyed, synthetic, or an imitation has no therapeutic effects.
Gemaceuticals offers only the highest quality untreated Turquoise on the planet.
